Saliba on how joining Arsenal changed his character.
Fans had to wait three years for the 22-year-old to make his debut even though he joined the Gunners as an 18-year-old in the summer of 2019. But it was worth the wait for him.
Saliba began his career as a striker and most recently was a member of the PFA Team of the Year for his efforts in 2022–23.
After running into difficulties with the coaches, the Frenchman later shifted to becoming a center-back.
"I wanted to score in every game, but I wouldn't say I was a selfish player," he said to the official Arsenal website.
While some strikers are self-centered, I also looked out for my teammates. However, I have to admit that I was a slothful player. Yes, I was sulky a lot and I was also lazy. My manager would constantly reprimand me for pouting and being slack during training.
"Perhaps this is why I wasn't chosen as captain! Like I stated, I was a child in my thoughts, but I eventually matured. At that age, my coaches were a big assistance to me. I changed after realizing how necessary being on the field was.
Saliba, who was selected for the most recent France team for his country's European qualifiers and played on Thursday in the 2-0 victory against the Republic of Ireland, also spoke about the camaraderie at Arsenal.
"You learn about everyone, about every culture," he continued.
